New River Community and Technical College--Let's Move

New River Community and Technical College looks forward to mobilizing the youth of Raleigh County to support First Lady Michelle Obama's seeping movement to boost kid's health through her national campaign, "Let's Move." Our project concept is two-fold. First, we plan to provide leadership training and support for our youth volunteers to identify the problems with the eating and fitness habits of our youth that have contributed to West Virginia's ranking as the unhealthiest state in the nation. Secondly, we will develop a service learning plan to build awareness of the actions needed to boost kids' health in our communities and schools. This project will start April 23-25 and continue throughout the course of the school year.

Youth ages 18-25 will be team captains. Team captains will begin planning and preparation for this project during the first week of April. On April 23, training packets and materials will be distributed prior to April 24's activities. Team captains will serve as mentors to our younger youth throughout the year. Younger volunteers will plan the initiative.
